Dairy Separator Maintenance - Why it Matters

There are many variables capable of influencing your milk skimming process. Of course, product temperature at the time of processing has a significant impact, but there's also the product's storage temperature, the length of time the product was stored, the quality of the milk itself, and the product's air exposure prior to reaching the separator.

Separator maintenance is essential to keep your operation up and running at top efficiency. Here are some of the ways it impacts your facility:

Increase Dairy Separation Yield

And by yielding a superior end product, you'll experience an increase in profits while running the same quantities through your dairy separator.

Reduce Facility Downtime

Many dairy processors have a difficult time shutting down their processes for a couple of hours to maintain their separation equipment. And while I completely understand the impulse, it's misguided - at best.

First, by taking those couple of hours upfront, your entire process is going to benefit from the optimized processing capabilities proper centrifuge maintenance brings. Second, ignoring regular maintenance leaves separation equipment vulnerable to larger problems that will decrease the quality of your final product and eventually force a facility to shut down and wait for service

As an added benefit, scheduling and receiving maintenance on your own timeline is much more efficient and cost-effective than having to deal with service and maintenance needs after a serious problem has occurred.

Extend Equipment Life

Routine maintenance increases the productive life of dairy separation equipment. When you have skilled separator service technicians tending to your equipment on a regular schedule, you're much more likely to catch issues before they become problems and prevent significant damage from harming your separation equipment. Beyond avoiding more costly parts and repairs, your well-maintained equipment will have a longer lifespan than if its maintenance needs were neglected.

This is all to say, preventative maintenance helps you avoid unpredictable damage to ensure your creamery stays operational and performs at an optimal level.
